Is gambling really all that Wicked?

Several weeks ago, some friends called us with a small problem.  They had extra tickets to Wicked next summer that they were trying to sell.  There had been some confusion on the dates and they ended up with tickets that they didn't need.  Knowing my love of musicals and theater and all things even remotely associated with Kansas, they called us.

After telling Superman the price of the tickets, I went into begging mode.  They weren't cheap, and the likelihood of us actually purchasing the tickets was small, but I had to give it my best shot.

"Please oh please oh PLEASE, Superman?  We've never been to an actual MUSICAL before!  And this is SUCH a great one!  Please oh please oh PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE?!?!?!?"

"Well, A) that's a lot of money.  And B), we have TOO been to a musical before," Superman responded,.

"Uh, no we haven't.  I'm pretty sure I would remember that."

"Well, we have.  Back in high school.  We went to see Rags."

I was utterly confused.  I was pretty sure I had never been to Rags.  What was Superman TALKING about?

"Huh?  I have absolutely NO recollection of us going to a musical when we were dating.  And it's definitely something I would remember.  There would be a scrapbook page with pictures of us going to 'The Theater' and ticket stubs and a program....."

"No, we definitely went.  Tabbitha (my best friend) was there, ........ and I'm pretty sure you were there."
"See!"  I pounced on that.  "You know MY FRIEND was there, but you're only ASSUMING I was there, too."

Superman was starting to doubt himself at this point. "Well, I'm pretty sure it was you.  Maybe it was Aniessa........she was really into all the culture stuff. ..... No, because it was after I graduated, and she and I had broken up by then.  Are you SURE you don't remember?  It was set in New York at the the turn of the century..........I'm just sureyou were there."

"Maybe we should call my mom," I offered.  "She'll remember."

"Okay, but be prepared to be wrong,"  said my sweet, humble, unassuming husband.  "In fact, I'll bet you the Wicked tickets that you went to Rags with me."

I was shocked.  "So, if my mom agrees that you never took me to Rags, we'll get the tickets?  You're THAT sure?"

"Yep.  Call her."

So I did.  And guess what?

I was right.

I WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Superman didn't take me to Rags.  Even now, he doesn't remember who he took.  I talked to my friend Tabbitha on Facebook and apparently, he didn't take her, either.  She has no recollection of the show, either.  So he seriously has no idea who went with him to the show.

But I know who's going to Wicked with him!  ME!!!!!  Summer 2012.

Duh. WINNING!!!!!!

That is the best bet ever. Not to mention a new inside joke you can tease your husband with for years to come. Best of both worlds.

Enjoy Wicked!

Awesome sauce! My husband and I do this all the time too- because we dated for so long we always assume we were always at whatever the event was we went to in the past. SO funny you turned out to be right!
