random stuff. since it's friday and all.

I think it's been like 8 years since I did a random Friday post. Feels good.

~~~~~~~~~
Have I told you anything about our new house? It's totally going to rock. It's on a cul-de-sac in a great neighborhood. It's got an accessory apartment that we are going to rent out for a few years, but then we can easily make the house a single family home. And it's big enough that we can be there for a LONG time, if we choose to be. It's got a huge kitchen with a FIREPLACE in it.
So things are going good with the house. Appraisal and inspection are done. All we're waiting for is renters for our place. Superman and I are going back and forth on whether or not we need to lower our rental price. It should probably be a little lower to be competitive, but any lower and it doesn't cover our mortgage. The biggest problem is that we're running out of time. As in, time is UP on Monday.
I'm still searching for the line between doing all I can do and having faith. If you've got an idea as to where it is, I'd appreciate any advice.
~~~~~~~~~

My house is a disaster. Half of it is in boxes, and it's hard to be motivated enough to clean the other half when I feel like I'm living in a hoarder's home. There's just a small walkway between the living room and the kitchen and vacuuming that pathway reminds me of Hoarders. I try not to think about it too much.

~~~~~~~~~
We had to replace our kitchen faucet. No big deal, right? Wrong. When Superman tried to turn off the water below the sink, the knob broke off. (Leaving me with no hot water in the kitchen.) So he tried to turn off the main water to the house, but wasn't exactly sure of what to do. He spent about 6 hours trying to figure it out. We called a friend of a friend who fixed it in 45 minutes. (For $75.) That's not the least bit aggravating.
~~~~~~~~~

The next night, I realized when I poured my son a cup of curdled milk that our refrigerator was going out. GREAT. Yesterday morning I was about to get in the shower when I had a feeling I should just check the "free" section of KSL classifieds. (For you non-Utahns, KSL is like Craigslist without the psychos.) The very first ad was for a free refrigerator and dishwasher. It had only been up for 8 minutes. I called, and I was the first one to inquire after them. I thought they were about 30 minutes away, but it turned out that they were right here in my town. So I'm getting a new refrigerator and dishwasher!! The lady said the fridge needs a new handle but works perfectly fine. (Which is fine with me. Replacing a new handle is MUCH cheaper than replacing a fridge!) We don't currently have a dishwasher, but now that we're getting one we might go ahead and hollow out part of the kitchen cabinets and install one.

How old is too old for children to bathe together? My boys are 4 and 5 1/2, and we're starting to wonder if they need to take separate baths. What do you think?

~~~~~~~~
So there's my random Friday, yo. Tell me what you think about brothers in the bath, rental prices, and faith. GO.
Hooray for new houses! I can't imagine a kitchen with a fireplace in it.
Love KSL too.
Great randoms.
My coworker spends hours a day, scouring KSL. It's sort of weird.
That kitchen is awesome!
that is so unusual to have a fireplace in the kitchen, cool, but definitely unusual.
I also love KSL. never bought anything from there, but I like to browse.
Good luck with the move! I hope all works out with the house!
And yea for the appliance replacement!
Occasionally, all four of my kids are in the bathtub at the same time. And sometimes, I have Savannah take a separate bath. Just depends. I'm pretty sure I showered with my sister until she hit puberty. Took me a while to figure out why she wouldn't let me anymore.
Excited for you and your new house! I hope you finally get your home rented and life slows down a little for you! I HATE living out of boxes.
I certainly don't have any authority on the issue, but I think kids will probably let you know when they're too old to bathe together.
I hope it all works out!
Lucky find on the fridge. So glad you listened to that prompting.
And I think your boys are still fine to bathe together.
So, just from my own recent renting experiences here are some ideas that we used: If you can afford this (it's a doosey) you can offer one month of free rent or even half price; throw in internet or cheap cable or something & it that also peaks people's interest; and even lowering the price $50 DOES make a HUGE difference. But... these all require money (or rather the sacrificing of money), so I KNOW it's not an easy decision. It's probably best to discuss these with Superman, then discuss them with the Lord. He'll know what to do :)
As far as the faith. In the end everything WILL work out the way it should. When we lost the 1st house we were buying just 4 days before closing I was sooooo disappointed!!! But I'm SOOOOOO glad it happened b/c I love our neighborhood & our house way more than that 1st one! I was glad that the Lord could see the whole picture before we could. Either you're meant for this house or something even better will come along. I'm sure you already knew that & that you don't need a pep talk from me, but that's just been my experience. I love you & I'm thinking about you!
So I just e-mailed you, and I should have read your blog first! Anyway, good for you for getting a new house. We wish we had a fireplace.
And that's really cool that the lady was giving away a fridge and dishwasher. Yay for you!
I started making Ethan take showers at age 5 1/2. I was sick of cleaning up water spills every time. And Aidan started taking showers at age 4 1/2 because I couldn't stand it anymore. I like shower time with the boys MUCH better than bath time!
new house sounds pretty cool... can't wait to see more pictures...
as for the bathtime issue, I don't have kids, but I have had boy students tell me about taking baths with their brother before, and how they like to play with each others parts... not good in my book (from what I studied about human development in college, the recommendation is that once they can talk, they shouldn't be bathing together... my cousin has 4 yr old twins and they are boy and girl, and they were always playing with each other and trying to figure out why they were different, so obviously they do NOT bathe together anymore...) just my thoughts on it... I don't think I'd be comfortable with my kids doing that kind of stuff... it usually leads to trouble when they don't know that what's okay at bathtime is not okay with other children or in other situations.
Craigslist without the psychos...hehehehe, true!
And I don't like your new house simply because you aren't moving any closer to me. So sad...
Good luck with everything! We rented our house out for a year while we lived out-of-state. It was so hard to turn my 3 month old house over to renters.
My advice when you are looking for renters is to look inside their car an see how clean it is. If they don't keep a clean car, they won't keep a clean house. My BIL did that for us (he managed the rental) and he was so right! Of course the joke is that he wouldn't have rented my own house to me. LOL!
I don't recommend keeping your existing place as a rental (we did that once) unless you can't sell it for some reason.
nope, they can keep bathing with each other until they dont want to. They are not too old at all. They will dictate when it is time. Koodles on the fridge and dishwasher! I love freecycle! congrats on your new home, extra score that you can have your renters pay your entire mortgage! NIiiice!
Did you not want to say it was your dad who broke the water faucet knob...please do not throw the Levi under the bus until you have too, sweet girl...I have big shoulders, and years of not fixing things right, but we did install the new dishwasher in our house last night...so happy for the renters and hope the appraisal thing works out ok...looking forward to the final phases so we can start planning a holiday visit...looks like Alex & Megan want to join us to visit
