Oh, what's in a name?

Last night in the car

Wonder Woman: Boys, what do you think your baby sister's name should be?

The Hulk: Umm.........Alyssa.

WW: That's my name! She needs a different name!

Spiderman: I think..............Giggle pants!!

WW: Giggle pants? She might not appreciate that in high school! What about Eliza?

Superman: Sure. Eliza Snarfleflaffen. (Very funny.) How about a real name? Like Laura?

WW: I kinda like Laura, but it seems so old.

Superman: How about you let your bloggers decide? Ask them for suggestion, put up a poll, and no matter what the name is, we use the winning name? Isn't that a great idea? Let the strangers we don't know decide what our daughter's name should be?

WW: Be careful what you wish for.

Help!! We are actively seeking suggestions. A few stipulations: We don't want an exceptionally popular name. This rules out Isabella, Emma, Sophia, Natalie, Ava, Olivia, Emily, and Madison, to name a few. (And of course we love all of those names.) Also, you may or may not know that our last name is May. (aMAYzing, isn't it?!) So it can't be a one syllable name, because it sounds bad. I don't plan on posting a poll, but it depends on how desperate Superman and I get.

So name away!!!

And she wouldn't even need a middle name! I might actually consider it if it would guarantee a fantastic sense of humor.

Eleanore, Mahalia (pronounced like Molly Uh), Mallory, Vivian, Lillian or Lily, oh my list could go on and on. I love baby names.

The m names might be too matchy matchy with May but they sounded so cute!

If I hear any more that I like I wills end them your way :).

I have some friends who refused to use any name on the top 100 list from the last 2-3 years. In the end, they were deciding between Charlotte and Vivian, and they chose Vivian. Good luck to you!

(P.S. If we find out we're having a girl, we will be in exactly the same boat as you.)

I really like Ruby. And Lavender. I like Rebekah, but that is kind of old, and (at least at my house) no one would be allowed to call her Becky. I really like Gwendolyn. Good luck!

Clint and I have been in the same boat. I think we've finally decided on Brooklyn Rose but who knows that could easily change.

I do like Erica, Danica, Sarah, and Ashlyn for starters. Good luck!

I love the name Lydia.

Also, Lily, Eliza (I know you already mentioned it, but I love it), Miriam. If I were to name a baby girl today, it would probably be one of those. Oh, and I love Caroline.

As a Mom with a one-syllable last name, I know EXACTLY what you mean! We named Anna "Annalyse" so it would be a long enough name. It's like the 750th most popular name and yet she STILL has another Annalyse in her class at school and I have 2 friends who have also used the name! LOL!

We picked Bethany because it was pretty, not weird and not overused and had some symbolic meaning to us.

My little sister named her gorgeous baby girl "Afton". It is an old-fashioned name that isn't weird but isn't common too.

With your last name, lots of things will sound good with it. You just want to avoid 'cutesy'. I quit going by 'Cindy' once I married into the last name 'Bee' because it was just TOO CUTESY!

I like Kailyn, London, Danika, Leilani, and Aurora.

Or, how about April (April May), :)

I like boy names for girls. I know you probably don't, and that's okay! For both of my girls, I tried really hard to get Casey to let me name them Brett. I LOVE that name for a girl. I also like Ryann and Shaun. I know, not really your thing but that's my two-cents. Since I'm convinced we only produce girls, I'm still going to try for Brett with the next one. I like "manly" names for boys. I mean, Mason and Asher are cute for a 2-year old, but the kid will eventually grow up. Seriously, guys! (Then again, people might be saying that about me with my boy names for girls...and for the record, both of my girls have girl names: Kate & Taylor - even though that could go either way) ;)

I like Lily and Lila. And I'm not using either of them. Although if we have another girl later I may regret this suggestion and want to steal it back.

I love the name Gracie. If I had another girl (which I won't) I would seriously consider Liberty. My friend just named her baby Lillja (pronounced Lillia). I lvoe all of those. I think all of those would be adorable with the last name May. What a fun last name!

Wow, what great names. We aren't having any more children at this stage of life, so I don't get to use my list. I have two names I've wanted use for a very long time. Julia (not Julia child, but my great-grandmother) and Margaret, though we would probably call her Maggie.

Good luck! names are so difficult. To name someone without knowing the complete personality is a exercise too difficult to comprehend!

What about Lila Rose? "Lila Rose May". I love the sound of Lila May, I also like "Liza May" I think your last name lends itself beautifully to a little girls name. Mae is one of my favorites for a middle name. I'm also a big Sleeping Beauty fan so I adore the name Rose, it was my grandmother's name as well. If I ever have a girl, I will seriously consider Lila Mae or Lila Rose. I'm a romanatic and I think that has a soft femine sound to it.

When I thought my third baby was a girl. When I was POSITIVE it was, she was Mallory. Mallory right up until she popped out with a penis. She then became Preston.

Mallory May. Nice ring. Of course Melissa May, or M-Cat May.

Just sayin.....

My sister's name is Laura...so I kind of like that one. She wouldn't let me use it for my daughter though.

Ivy. Rose. Violet.

(I like old fashioned names.)

There are so many really. I always liked Barrett. (As in Elizabeth Barrett Browning.)

Lots of good suggestions here. I'll be excited to see what you pick. You have a fun last name to work with. I always wanted to name a girl Mackenzie with my last name. Even though she wouldn't keep that last name forever, I thought the two were cute together.

I like Maggie, too!

This is why I'm glad we're having a boy this time. After three girls, we ran out of names. Here are some to play with though: Nora, Giselle, Brielle, Elsie, Cadence, Kayla. I also think Eliza is nice. Whatever you do, just don't name her April.

Lydia, Charlotte, Hazel, Hannah, Sasha, Veronica, Tessa, Betty, Lauren, Bambi, Candy, Cinnamin, Barbie, Purple or Doughnut.

(so I ran out of serious ideas mid-way.)

How about the name "Mae"? It is one of my daughter's names and we love it.

Then your daughter would be...
Mae May. I like it.

PS: We call our "Mae" "Mae Mae" anyhow, which ironically means "little sister" in Chinese.

PPS: Merry Christmas, girl! Hope your day is merry & bright, with not a lot of heart burn and plenty of turkey & feet-up resting.

Wow I am bad at the baby name game too. When/if I think of one that is pretty and not common, I'll be back!

Well, I'm working on boys names, which are harder for me, since we already had to come up with three, so we are sort of out. My husband just likes George and I think George is like child abuse. (Apologies to any Georges out there).

Girls are easier: Charlotte (Lottie), Margaret (Meggie, very Thornbirds), Anna. Okay, maybe this isn't very easy, either. Good luck.

My kids like Santa Romeo, but that is obviously a boy name.

I like Charlotte...and Claire (oh, that's one syllable). :)

I already used my two favorite girl names, so if I end up having a THIRD girl we're going to have a tougher time coming up with girl names we both like.

Some of my favorites if I DO have a third girl are definitely Brynnley, Lucy, and Layla. All of those sound good with May!

i like old fashioned names and boyish names for girls (i would understand if you didn't like that, though, you have two boys already...)

Victoria, Eliza, Betsy, Genevive, Juliet, Margaret, Catherine (uh...obviously...) are my favorite old fashioned names.

Adrian, Riley, Charlie (one of my most beautiful girlfriends has this name), Kennedy, Billy, Dylan and the boyish names. i have more, but i know some people don't like boyish names on girls.

good luck and safe travels back! looks like you are going to miss the snow here. :)

Good luck!

I wanted to use Ella, but you can use it since I'm having a boy. I also like Evenia and Elinor.
